Job Title:

Heavy Duty Tire Repair Technician

JOB OBJECTIVE: To repair and replace tires, do fleet checks, road service calls, after hours calls and minor service and repairs on vehicles.

JOB PURPOSE: This position is responsible for the repair and replace tires on company vehicles and assist with other duties when there are no tire repairs to be done.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Graduate
• Experience in customer service would be a definite asset
• Dynamic, highly energetic individual with the ability to work without close supervision
• Ability to multi-task and interact professionally with staff
• Analytical, problem-solving and effective communication skills

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Use all safety related PPE such as gloves, safety glasses and tire cages while doing any work.
• Drive service trucks to road location to provide fleet services and/or respond to emergency calls.
• Raise vehicles using hydraulic jacks.
• Unbolt wheels from vehicles and remove them, using lug wrenches and other hand and power tools.
• Separate tires from wheels, using rubber mallets and metal bars or mechanical tire changers.
• Inspect tire casings for defects, such as holes and tears.
• Seal punctures in tubeless tires by inserting adhesive material and expanding rubber plugs into punctures, using hand tools.
• Reassemble tires onto wheels.
• Identify and inflate tires correctly for the size and ply.
• Place wheels on balancing machines to determine counterweights required to balance wheels.
• Hammer required counterweights onto rims of wheels.
• Remount wheels onto vehicles.
• Locate punctures in tubeless tires by visual inspection or by immersing inflated tires in water baths and observing air bubbles.
• Replace valve stems and remove puncturing objects.
• Rotate tires to different positions on vehicles, using hand tools.
• Assist mechanics and perform other duties as directed when there are no tires to repair
