Pharmacy Technician
The Pharmacy Technician works closely with the Pharmacist and aids in the preparation and distribution of medication to patients and the recording/ updating of the appropriate records to document transactions and maintain relevant pharmacy records. This role is also responsible for processing all payment transactions within the pharmacy.
To be successful as a Pharmacy Tech. requires excellent communication, patience, integrity, accuracy, and a desire to help in all pharmacy-related matters; good customer service skills, and attention to detail in particular as it relates to patient records, assistance with filling prescriptions, and payment transactions. Must be a team player with the ability to be flexible based on pharmacy operating hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide good customer service. Greet customers with a smile.
- Receive, verify, price, and prepare prescriptions for the Pharmacist to dispense. Verify insurance coverage as needed.
- Pre-count and package fast-moving items.
- Perform Cashier duties as needed and provide a receipt to every customer.
- Balance the cash register and generate the required daily reports.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment. Periodically dust and sanitize as per SOP.
- At the end of the shift, prepare the work area for the next shift using the appropriate checklist.
- Assist with pharmacy inventory maintenance. Advise the Pharmacist of any anticipated needs.
- Price items and update inventory system and shelving when new stock arrives. Remove expired drugs and follow the SOP for their safe disposal.
- Assist in the maintenance of the Narcotics Log and the preparation of the Narcotics Register.
- Properly file all prescriptions at the beginning of each day
- Comply with the laws as regulated by The Pharmacy Act (2009) and the Bahamas Pharmacy Council.
- Partner with other pharmacy technicians and pharmacists to create a seamless experience for each customer.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirement
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, etc.)
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize work and multi-task.
- Attention to detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Must be a team player.
- Reliable with patience and professionalism
- Pleasant, personable, well-groomed, and punctual
- Strong professional ethics.
Education, Certification & Experience Requirements
- Associate degree or equivalent in Business or related field is preferred
- Two (2) plus years of relevant work experience is a plus
- Registered and Certified Pharmacy Technician is preferred
