Basic Functions:

The Credit Risk Manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective maintenance of the portfolio of loans at an acceptable level of risk, by ensuring the exercise of sound credit judgment by lending staff in approving and recommending applications, monitoring credit quality, conditions, and collection activity, thereby ensuring loan losses are minimized.

Required to travel and change work locations and conditions to conduct inspections to identify credit quality and any material shortcomings in the credit risk management process and credit portfolio monitoring process within a limited period.

Liaise with Managers, Credit, Lending Support, and other support staff as required to collect sufficient information on credit risk issues and provide a balanced opinion and recommendations to address any concerns or limitations.

Undertake desk research of credit portfolio reports aiming at identifying potential areas of concern.

Participate in ad hoc inspections as ordered by Management (&/or Board, Credit Committee) to provide senior management with an in-depth and independent opinion on credit risk issues. Participate in the special assignments aimed at sharing specific expertise to other entities within PWCCUL.

Ensure Approval of credit is within prescribed limits, within the framework of the Credit Risk Policy and provide guidance in the absence of the Branch Manager.

Must be focused and Performance-oriented consistently demonstrating Respect, Integrity, Passion, and Accountability in dealing with staff and peers alike.


Other Responsibilities include:

· Responsible for identifying, analyzing, measuring, and monitoring credit risks for consumer and residential real estate loans. This will include conducting various loan portfolio analyses, identifying risk trends, and preparing results summaries and recommendations to assist with managerial decision-making.

· Select a limited sample of (potential) higher risk members as well as act on signals from within the organization to identify patterns in credit risk development and provide a basis for regular on-site Credit Risk inspections in all PWCCUL's operations.

· Developing and maintaining credit risk models for consumer products including residential real estate, vehicles, and unsecured loans. Evaluating credit performance of existing products; forecasts and making strategy recommendations to manage the risk of the credit union, including formal loan portfolio assessment reports.

· Gathering and analyzing complex data, driving down to individual attributes, develops accurate conclusions and provides recommendations to aid in decision making. Ensuring all credit exposures are in line with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and risk appetite.

· Analyzing credit portfolio to help establish risk limits and understand risk exposure. Assisting in the development of credit risk policies and procedures. Supporting management of loan policy and guidelines; develops and supports implementation of recommendations that facilitate efficient underwriting decisions and align with organizational risk appetite.

· Maintaining audit documentation, change control documentation and strategy validation documentation. Assisting with the development, implementation and monitoring of various risk management initiatives including concentration analysis and establishment of exposure limits.

· Documenting reporting processes and keeps audit trail. Maintains comprehensive procedures and documentation related to tasks handled. Conducting other analysis such as capital adequacy, risk based capital or current expected credit loss model scenarios through collaboration with the Senior Risk Manager, Accounts & Operations.

· Serves as the Chairperson of the Credit Risk Committee.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting, or a closely related discipline. A minimum of 5 years relevant experience demonstrating credit or financial analysis skills in a complex analyst role. A good understanding of Credit Union lending policies and procedures, financial analysis, risk assessment techniques, credit structuring, collateral and security documentation and registration, collection, related legislation, and accounting practices.

At least 3 years hands-on experience with various data collection methodologies. Understanding of credit risk implications to the Credit Union’s business. Demonstrated organizational skills, ability to prioritize and learn and apply new skills quickly.

Good credit judgment. Strong communication skills, written and verbal. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work effectively and efficiently. Strong coaching and counseling skills. Advanced knowledge and proficiency of MS Excel; high level of proficiency creating/developing comprehensive Excel spreadsheets, charts, and graphs is required
