GROUNDSKEEPER / LANDSCAPER / GARDENER
JOB DESCRIPTION
Reports direct to the Island Manager


SUMMARY
Candidate should be passionate about plants and the outdoors, always seeking plant, soil, and tree knowledge, and conduct themselves in a professional manner. We are looking for candidates who are interested in joining a household where teamwork is expected and appreciated. As the landscaper, you will be tending to everything from plantings and detailed gardens, to terrace planters and green roofs. You will be utilizing your knowledge in sound horticultural practices, pest management and proper pruning techniques. The gardens you will manage include newly completed installations, all the way to well-established gardens that are many years old. Maintaining an extremely clean vehicle, tool storage and ‘back of house’ is the norm. May also be expected to handle ad-hoc tasks and special requests, running errands, related duties as needed to assist Island manager and staff.

Typically, this is an 8 to 4 job with the potential for after hours or weekend work.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Implement, adhere to and document annual arborists and soil report recommendations.
• Weekly checks: irrigation, lighting, fencing, hardscape, paving, drainage/guttering. Clean and repair as needed.
• Light tree and shrub pruning below 12’ in height. Proper pruning techniques necessary.
• Daily inspections of every plant. Document and report all changes and investigate remedies where needed. Consult with arborist as needed.
• Strict adherence to weekly landscape maintenance schedule to retain a “weed-free, all things green and thriving, and “guest-ready” always look.
• Wear appropriate PPE (personal protection equipment) and staff uniform.

SKILLS AND EDUCATION
• Minimum 5 years related experience working as a landscaper.
• Excellent references required from current and previous employers.
• Positive and energetic demeanor. Poised, polished, and professional. Loyal, discreet, and possesses good judgement.
• Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills.
• Ability to produce and record photo-documentation of plant progress and general health.
• Communication Skills – Regularly communicate and collaborate with the island manager and adhere to their daily requests.
• Must maintain an elevated level of confidentiality. Be proactive and emotionally intelligent. Must be super-organized and scheduled, but flexible when needed.
• Computer Skills - Ability to learn and use smart phone and all apps related to position, program smart irrigation and outdoor lighting controllers.
• Technical Skills – ability to program digital smart irrigation and LED programmable lighting controllers.

Regularly check water usages and track usage. Some plumbing knowledge with ability to detect and repair water leaks. Change irrigation heads and nozzles.
• Pest management and chemical handler’s application certificate a plus.
• Education – any form of formal education related to landscaping is a plus.
• English proficiency - required. Bilingual is a plus.
• A valid driver’s license and current auto insurance is necessary.
• Flexible scheduling with availability to work overtime and weekends as needed. Able to go the extra mile when needed to get the job done.
