Job vacancy Scrub Technician

The Scrub Technician assists in preparing the Operating Room alongside an RN, demonstrating expertise in equipment and primarily scrubbing for major and minor surgeries.

Job Purpose

The Scrub Technician is to assist with the preparation of the Operating Room with the assistance of the RN They should possess a good knowledge of all equipment used in the Operating Room and their functions. The Scrub Technician major role is to scrub for all major and minor cases performed in the Operating Room.

Essential Functions

• Maintains the par stock level in the OR
• Prints Preference cards for procedure .
• Assist in picking for other cases using preference.
• Takes part in weekend cleaning understanding that this is also a learning process in finding out where items are kept.
• Assist the circulator in positioning the patient as long as their ‘table’ is ready
• Relieves staff for breaks when possible
• Selects appropriate instruments ,packs, equipment, and sutures for procedures with the assistance of the R.N and always using the preference cards
• Opens packs using sterile technique
• Scrubs for procedures using the recommended method approved by the O.R committee
• Gowns and gloves self and surgeons for procedures
• Anticipates and responds to surgeons needs and request by passing appropriate instruments, swabs, and sutures
• Observes swabs instruments and needles so that they do not become misplaced
• Accepts specimens from the surgeon who identifies the sample and hands it off to the R.N. with any instructions for its handling
• Performs a swab instrument and needle count at the beginning of the procedure and when the first cavity is being closed with the assistance of the Circulator
• Collects all instruments at the end of the procedure and makes them available for the cleaning process and sterilization
• Performs other duties within his/ her capabilities to assist with the smooth running of the department
• Relieves previous staff and receives report
• Is always available to scrub for cases during their shift

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum Certified Scrub Technician from a college or technical school preferred
• Minimum Highschool Diploma
• Three to six month’s experience and training in a Surgical setting
• Must be trained in all major areas of surgical disciplines especially Endoscopic, Orthopedic, GYN and General Surgery.
