Job Description

The Sanitation Manager provides a strong leadership to the Sanitation team to achieve full plant compliance with all personnel safety, food safety, sanitation/cleaning requirements pertaining to all the Company’s own food safety and manufacturing standards. They must meet or exceed guidelines as they pertain to the facility, equipment and industry standards for sanitation.

The Sanitation Manager is responsible for the daily management of Sanitation & Cleaning services, personnel and project support for the company, in order to ensure operational effectiveness and efficiency within all zones of company.

Sanitation Manager performs a variety of tasks including special projects, cleaning, sanitizing, requisitioning supplies and equipment, facilities inspection, and other duties as required based on the needs of the business. The Sanitation Supervisor works with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment to address issues, but will be required to justify actions.

The Sanitation Manager is a working position who may work in a team environment, or on specific assigned projects. Duties will also include helping to develop new methods, staff training and evaluation, and completing daily reports. Special Project Assignments may occasionally fluctuate between inside & outside environments, scheduled work shifts.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads the sanitation team in safe working practices including chemical handling.

  • Understands the manufacturing process and equipment/parts design in order to ensure proper equipment sanitation and efficient startups.

  • Problem solves with Owners and facilities Management Teams, with an open-mind & the spirit of co-operation in a positive and professional manner. Responsible for efficiently supporting a variety of operational facilities in their sanitation and cleaning needs; work in conjunction with Management Team as needed to assure readiness for upcoming projects; demonstrates good time management in planning work schedules to ensure deadlines are met.

  • Establishes standards and procedures for work of staff; will be required to lead by example. Assists in the development, organization and participation of staff in departmental training programs; provides on-going management and coaching to improve operations with positive reinforcement and goals.

  • Maintains records and daily logs. Prepares periodic activity and reports for review.
  • Accountability for all Departmental stock & inventory control. Periodically inventories supplies and requisitions and distributes supplies and equipment; places orders as required. Maintains records of supplies used.

  • Daily inspects and evaluates cleanliness and physical condition of facilities, and submits reports to GM & Maintenance Department of recommendations for painting, repairs, furnishings, replacement of tools and equipment, etc.

  • Plans schedules and coordinates cleaning projects with facility operational Management teams. Demonstrates excellent communication written and verbal communication skills.

  • Writes weekly staff assignment schedules, performs employee performance evaluations, and holds disciplinary/coaching meetings as needed.

  • Makes recommendations for improvements.

  • Daily ensures supply rooms are stocked and maintained in a neat & orderly manner.

  • Flexible scheduling: Some scheduling is determined by hours of operation and events; also occasionally works after hours to complete special projects, handle after-hour emergencies and problems. Demonstrates analytical skills and the ability to problem solve. Available if needed 24/7 for business emergencies.

  • Ensures all safety procedures are followed.

  • Flexible duties: Any other duties deemed necessary by corporate management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Principles and processes for providing business sanitation & cleaning services, includes needs assessment, meeting quality standards, and evaluation of results.
  • Business & management principles involved with planning, resource allocation, & leadership technique.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively.
  • Reading and comprehension abilities for proper use of chemicals
  • Must be able to follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines when using and storing chemicals.
  • Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of Food safety initiatives and safety protocols and procedures.
  • As needed, must be able to work shifts, weekends.
  • General knowledge of all cleaning equipment operation. Excellent knowledge of Production machines.
  • Ability to work in a Team environment in a positive manner of respect, cooperation & flexibility.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Sanitation Manager directly manages the employees of sanitation. Responsibilities include instructing and training in work methods; planning, scheduling, participating in and assigning work; checking and approving work.

EQUIPMENT, MACHINES AND SOFTWARE USED

This position requires the regular use of a computer; software to include Word, Excel & scheduling; based on assignments: commercial floor cleaning machine, scrubber/buffer, cleaners, pressurized air hoses, carpet & vacuum, and an assortment of hand-held cleaning tools.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that typically may be faced by an individual in performing the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, squat, kneel, walk, use hands to finger, grasp, talk, hear and perform repetitive motions. The individual is frequently required to push and pull. The individual is occasionally required to climb, balance, reach, and lift. The physical requirements of this position call for the ability to exert up to 55 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Occupational hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as occasionally working on ladders, exposure to cleaning chemicals, working on wet floors, long hours on concrete floors. Unpleasant tasks: Duties may include handling garbage, strongly unpleasant odors, extreme heat etc.
